Alan Grayson, the Consitution, and Me

I know that people around the country have been shocked and offended by Congressman Grayson’s comments of late, and I am including myself in that group. But that’s okay, because I kind of admire him. Why? Well I’m glad you asked….because he’s got his First Amendment and he’s not afraid to use it.

You have a right in our great country to be as offensive as you want. How do I know? Well, because the First Amendment says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech; or of the press; or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

See, it doesn’t say to “protect only that speech with which Congress shall agree”. Congressman Grayson has a right to be offensive. And the people of the 8th Congressional District of the Great State of Florida have the right to be offended and to show their displeasure by voting his butt right out of office…or not.

You don’t have the right to never be offended by the things people say. The Constitution says that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights and that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It doesn’t say that you have the right to BE happy, only that you get to take a shot at it, and as many shots as you like. It also doesn’t say that you get to have your every life choice accepted, tolerated, or approved by everyone you meet. Our constitution, whether you want to believe it or not, whether you like it or not, gives us the right to hate. We have a right to our thoughts and to our speech and we can hate whomever we like for whatever stupid reason we want. (I personally think that it takes a lot of effort and work to hate someone, so if you’re going to do it, it should be for a good reason…like the rape-rape of a 13 year old child, and not the color of someone’s skin or their political viewpoint…but I digress.) The 14th Amendment guarantees us equal protection under the law, equal protection, not special protection, which is why I think Hate Crime legislation is unconstitutional. (but I’m just a white chick from Georgia, not a former constitutional law professor who ~~took credit for writing~~ wrote two nauseatingly self serving books about myself, so what do I know?)

My point to all of this is that the Liberal Left walks around with the First Amendment tattooed to their foreheads. They say what they think, what they REALLY think and offer no apologies for it. Which they shouldn’t, if you’re being honest in your speech, I say go for it. The Right has yet to grasp that concept. If they say something that could be construed by ANYONE as offensive, they’re out in front of a camera apologizing, or supplicating themselves at the feet of Rev. Al. Congressman Grayson on the other hand, when asked to apologize for the “Republicans want you to die quickly” comment, went to the floor of the House and apologized to the “families of the dead” because they had been unable to pass ~~Healthcare~~ Health Insurance Reform legislation. I thought it was great, laughed myself into a coughing fit.

The politicians on the Right need to get out there, say what they think and then stand by it. Americans admire that kind of bravery even if we don’t necessarily agree with the point that is being made. So get out there, make your voice heard and don’t back down…show Congressman Grayson, and Speaker Pelosi, and President Obama that they are great teachers and we have learned our lesson!!!

So, I see an article about Al Gore running his fat mouth about ~~Global Warming~~ Climate Change and in it Mr. Gore had this to say:

“We’re very close to that political tipping point,” Gore said at the Society of Environmental Journalists annual conference at the Madison Concourse Hotel. “Never before in human history has a single generation been asked to make such difficult and consequential decisions.”

Really? No single generation has been asked to make such difficult and consequential decisions? Really? Well, what about this generation:

I’m not saying that recycling and trying to reduce our footprint on the planet is a bad thing, and it for sure can’t hurt. But to turn it into some immediate crisis and demand that people do things that you yourself are not willing to do (fly commercial lately? How much was your electric bill last month) is just plain offensive. So, Mr. Gore, could you please just Shut. The. Hell. Up.? That one act could cut the carbon emissions of the United States by 50%. This obsession of yours is not making you more relevant (which I know was the goal) it’s just making you look sad and lonely.

This Really Isn’t Funny Anymore

Well, my fellow American Patriots, it appears that our country has gone from this:

When I saw this at Gateway Pundit and at Fire Andrea Mitchell I nearly lost my breakfast. I wondered if I had woken up in China or N. Korea.

People, please wake up. While, for good or ill, Mr. Obama is the elected representative of the United States, he is NOT the United States. I would dare say he is not even representative of the United States. I do not understand what all the fuss is about anyway. On Friday, when Dear Leader was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize *gigglesnort*, he said himself:

“Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations,” he said at the White House. “To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize.”

Now this is only the second time Mr. Obama has said something I agree with. (The first was Kanye West is a jackass). Mr. Obama has done nothing since 2004 but campaign. He got the job, and he’s still campaigning. It’s all he seems to know how to do. He has yet to accomplish one single thing. Well, okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh. He has managed to be the first sitting U.S. President to bow to a foreign leader. He has managed to blame the U.S. for everything from Global Warming to Islamic Terrorism. And I believe he is also the first sitting U.S. President to so totally FUBAR a situation that he was forced to invite folks to the White House for a beer. Oh, and he’s not George W. Bush. But other than that, can’t think of a thing he’s accomplished.

But before the charges of hater and racist start flying around…Let me be clear: Ronald Reagan was and is my favorite president. He was a kind and thoughtful man who took the disaster he inherited (sorry, couldn’t resist) from Jimmy Carter and turned it around. Not by expanding government, but letting the free market principles and the ingenuity of the American People do their thing. He ended the Cold War without military intervention, he got the monstrosity that was the Berlin Wall to disappear. And for all that…I would be just as outraged and a little sick to my stomach to see his face on the American Flag, or to hear children sings songs in ode to him in school. Because you see, the United States isn’t about any one person. The United States is an ideal, an experiment in self-government. We do not have a king, nor do we want one. I mean it has been 26 years since I graduated from high school, but I seem to remember being taught that we fought a war to rid ourselves of a king.

I thought the Obama flip flops were funny, tacky, but funny. The condoms and the thongs…well ewwww. But this, this is just not funny. It’s dangerous. (Uh oh, I think that might make Nancy Pelosi cry). We must be vigilant and not let this Cult of Personality delude us into misplaced loyalty. Our loyalty should be to America, not to any representative of America..I fear the results if that changes.

My Pick for the Nobel Peace Prize

Neda was and is a symbol for the yearning all people have to be free. Free to have their voices heard. Free to think for themselves. Free to choose their own paths in life. Free to speak up when they disagree with their government. Free. This woman and her compatriots and their cries for freedom were abandoned and ignored by the current winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace.

The General, he just doesn’t get it.

In an article published in the Telegraph.co.uk an “adviser to the President” said this about General McChrystal:

“People aren’t sure whether McChrystal is being naïve or an upstart. To my mind he doesn’t seem ready for this Washington hard-ball and is just speaking his mind too plainly.”

Really? This incredibly brave “adviser to the President”, and by brave I mean, too chicken to tell us his name, this person thinks the Commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan isn’t ready to play hardball? Ha.

I have an alternate theory. I think that the General just has no concept of how to put politics before his mission. I don’t think he’s ever given a minute’s thought to the process you have to go through to put politics above the lives of his troops. I think he believes he’s responsible for two things: 1)the lives and safety of his troops, and b)sending the Taliban back to the Stone Age. And with these two thoughts in the forefront of his mind at all times, his only concern is how to complete his mission with the minimum number of U.S. military, NATO, and Afghan civilian deaths. Period. I don’t think he gives a rat’s ass about politics and having to deal with a POTUS who ONLY cares about politics is frustrating this fine military man to no end.

THAT is the problem, Mr. Adviser to the President. The General doesn’t understand how people in D.C. could NOT want to win a war and how they could possibly be willing to put ANYTHING, let alone politics, above the lives of American fighting men and women.

But I’m no political scientist nor am I a military strategist, so I could be wrong.

I got this email today from Organizing America:

Members of Congress have been home for just a few days, and they’re already facing increased pressure from insurance companies, special interests, and partisan attack organizations that are spending millions to block health insurance reform.

These groups are using scare tactics and spreading smears about the President’s plan for reform, trying to incite constituents into lashing out at their representatives and disrupting their events. (We’re using scare tactics? Who’s this idiot trying to kid? ~D)

The goal of these disruptions is for a few people to get a lot of media attention and hijack the entire public discourse. If they succeed, all Americans — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents — will continue to struggle under the broken status quo.

It’s up to us to show Congress that those loudly opposing reform are a tiny minority being stirred up by special interests, and that a huge majority strongly supports enacting real health insurance reform in 2009. (emphasis mine)

So today I hear that the White House is calling the anger at recent Town Hall meetings “manufactured”. Well, Mr. W. House is correct. The anger has been manufactured…..by the government. If they think that we are only angry at Democrats then they are sadly mistaken. We’ve had it with all of you. It’s GOVERNMENT that we’re angry with. We’ve had enough of government officials who seem to have forgotten that they are nothing more than temporary government employees who work for us. We’ve had enough of government officials who use their positions to create vast sums of wealth giving speeches and writing books and then decry the “evils” of the rich, as if they somehow have nothing in common with them. We’ve had enough of government officials flying around in private jets and driving around in armored SUV’s at the expense of the taxpayer and then yelling at us for not being green enough. We’ve had enough of government officials who, with a straight face, tell us that the American People don’t care about the pork attached to bills. We’ve had enough of government officials telling us there is no point to reading bills before they’re voted on. We’ve had enough of government officials telling us they have no idea what was in the bill they just voted for. We’ve had enough of government officials making deals for legislative votes. We’ve had enough of government officials telling us they intend to govern “transparently” and then refusing to post bills online, or release documents. We’ve had enough of government officials telling us that we don’t think what we think, and that they will tell us what we think. We’ve had enough of government officials padding their pockets with money from special interest groups and lobbyists and then acting as if their very existence is a crime against humanity. We’ve had enough of government officials who put their reelection above national security. We’ve had enough of government officials who lie, cheat, and steal and then tell us, with a straight face, that they never lie, cheat, or steal. We’ve had enough of government officials who govern not by what is best for the country but on polling numbers. We’ve had enough of government officials who refuse to stand up and do what’s right because they’re afraid of political fallout. We’ve had enough of government officials who have gotten it into their heads that the American People are subjects of the Federal Government rather than free citizens. We’ve had enough of government officials who seek to give themselves control of our health, our paychecks, our families, of our very lives.

Do you understand? We don’t care if you’re a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent (whatever the hell that is). We don’t care if you’re a Democrat who used to be a Republican, a Republican who used to be a Democrat or an Independent (whatever the hell that is). We’ve had ENOUGH! We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore, and you better be listening, because, just in case you forgot…that’s your JOB!!!

Being White Isn’t for Sissies

Turns out I’m a full on racist. I’m white. I’m a conservative. (which I think also makes me gayist) I live in the South. I think that Barack Obama is an incompetent boob. Of course I think that Harry Reid is an incompetent boob as well and he’s the whitest man in America (well, at least since Michael Jackson died). I think that the Revs. Al and Jesse are irrelevant morons. I think that America is a country with borders and laws that she has a right to have respected.

It used to hurt me that anyone would think me a racist until I was informed the other day that as a white person I AM a racist until I PROVE otherwise. Well, now I’m just pissed off. I was pissed off to hear that Sgt. Crowley of the Cambridge police department was a racist for responding to a call about someone breaking into a professor’s home. I was pissed off to hear that a woman who was trying to help out a neighbor and called the police is a racist. I was pissed off to hear that Americans complaining (loudly in most cases) about the ridiculous spending coming out of D.C. were patriots when President Bush and the Republican congress were doing it, and these same people suddenly turned into backward, redneck, teabagging racists when The One became president.

It pisses me off that liberals who work very hard to keep black people victims and poor people of all colors poor are the good guys and I’m a racist because I think a hand up is better than a hand out. It pisses me off that a person like Professor Skip Gates (what grown man lets people call him Skip…or Scooter for that matter) are allowed to make snap judgments about people based on the color of their skin because their great great grandfathers were slaves. I’m sorry, but that doesn’t give you a free pass to be an asshole. It gives your great great grandfather a pass, but not you. If I assumed that Professor Skip Gates got to be a Harvard professor simply because he “checked the box” and was accepted to Ivy League schools over more qualified white people because of Affirmative Action, and without it the only job he could get at Harvard would be serving food or scrubbing toilets…well I would be a racist. But to assume that white fire fighters who passed a promotion test and did better than the black applicants who took the test somehow did something nefarious isn’t racist….well, now I’m confused. White Entertainment Television would be racist, but Black Entertainment Television fills a niche. Miss White America would be racist but Miss Black America provides equal opportunity. I’m confused. But then I’m just a white conservative cracker…what do I know?

As a white person, the way you say “Good Morning” can be considered racist depending on the people in the room, and you’re stuck defending yourself. Black people don have to watch what they say, but white people end up losing careers and reputations if they say something stupid and don’t go on Rev. Al’s radio show to apologize to the entire black community. A black man can go on the Factor and call Michelle Malkin a whore, and that’s okay…but if those roles were reversed … well the shit storm that would follow something like that would never go away and no amount of beer would fix it.

I’m pissed off and I’m fightin’ mad…so I say, I’ll be a racist if it makes you feel better, I’m done defending myself…so bring it on, I ain’t afraid.
